The General Manager of the Gateway Vocational Training Center (GVTC), Mr. William Wowah has underscored the need for the empowerment of the Liberia Construction Contractors to enable them contribute effectively to the growth and development of the Liberian economy.

Mr. Wowah indicate that the Liberian Construction Contractors are currently face with multiple challenges that are undermine their efforts in the development of the country.
Speaking at the ALCC General Assembly held at the Crown Hotel on December 19, 2024, Mr. Wowah identified weak legal and regulatory framework, lack of transparency in contract awards among other as some of the challenges face by local Construction Contractors.
He also named actions or decisions by central government that among others undermine the work of Liberian Construction Contractors and also discourage much needed investment in the country.
According to GVTC Boss, Investors are often treated as opportunities for graft or corruption.
“This is opportunities for the acquisition of gain or advantage by dishonest or unfair means through position, influence in politics and business”
He added that local Construction Contractors and local private entrepreneur have very little access to finance.
In an effort to address these challenges face by Liberian Construction Contractors and private sector entrepreneurs,
Mr. Wowah made several recommendations. He calls for Sustained and inclusive economic development, transparency in contract awards, provision of financial access to private sector entrepreneurs.
The youthful GVTC General Manager, also call for demonstration of strong political will to fight corruption, strong political support to Liberian Construction Contractors.
At the same time Mr. Wowah challenged Liberian Construction Contractors to exhibit integrity, professionalism, Credibility in the performance of their duties and to desist from failing on project because of corruption.
